This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information in connection with the aPARKment app. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What we collect
We collect personal information you give us and information generated as you use the app:
- Account & identity: your name, email address, and password (stored securely; we never see it in plain text).
- Residence: the building/group you belong to and, where relevant, your unit.
- Vehicle: car details you choose to add (e.g. make, colour, plate) so neighbours can recognise the car.
- Parking activity: spaces you list, availability you share, and booking history.
- Messages & content: messages, call-outs, and reports you send through the app.
- Device & technical: push-notification tokens, app version/build, and basic device information needed to deliver notifications and operate the app.
- Crash diagnostics: if the app crashes or hits an error, we collect technical details of the failure — the error type and message, where in the code it happened, the app version/build, and your operating system and device model.
- Usage analytics: a small, fixed list of milestone events, so we can see where people get stuck while setting up. We record that an account was created, a building was joined, a parking space was added, availability was shared, and a booking was made — plus a few coarse categories such as whether availability was shared for "under 2 hours" or "over 24 hours".
What crash diagnostics and usage analytics never include: your name, email address, unit number, building or group name, parking space code, vehicle details, or the content of any message, call-out or report. Exact durations are replaced by broad ranges, and looking up your location from your IP address is switched off. Both are linked to a random account identifier rather than to your name or email — see section 5 for what that means for deletion.
2. How we use it
We use your information to: create and run your account; connect you with neighbours in your building; show your name and space to those neighbours so arrangements can be made; send service and booking notifications; keep the app safe (including handling reports and blocks); and improve and support the app. We do not sell your personal information.
3. When we share it
We share personal information only as needed to run the app:
- With your neighbours in the same group — e.g. your name, space, and messages, as the app's features require.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf, including our hosting and database provider (Supabase, with data stored in Australia), Apple's and Google's push-notification services, our crash-reporting provider (Sentry, in the United States) and our usage-analytics provider (PostHog, in the United States). They handle data under our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or aPARKment.
4. Storage and security
Your information is stored with our hosting provider on infrastructure located in Australia (Sydney region). We use access controls and encryption in transit, and restrict access to your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
5. Access, correction, and deletion
You can view and update much of your information in the app (for example, your name, vehicle, and space). You can delete your account at any time from within the app, which removes your profile and associated personal information, subject to any records we must retain by law. Crash diagnostics and usage analytics are pseudonymous — they are keyed to a random account identifier and contain none of the personal details listed in section 1 — and deleting your account does not remove them automatically. Email us at support@aparkment.co and we will delete them. You can also turn usage analytics off at any time in the app under Profile → Share usage data; crash diagnostics stay on, because they are how we find out the app is broken. You may also contact us to request access to, or correction of, your personal information.
6. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the app and for legitimate business or legal reasons (for example, limited booking and report records for safety and dispute purposes). When no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
For the two pseudonymous streams described in section 1: usage-analytics events are retained for up to 7 years by our analytics provider unless you ask us to delete them sooner, and crash diagnostics are retained for 90 days before being deleted automatically.
7. Children
aPARKment is intended for users 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Overseas disclosure
Our primary data storage is in Australia. Some service providers process limited information overseas: Apple's and Google's push-notification services, and our crash-reporting and usage-analytics providers (Sentry and PostHog), which process the pseudonymous technical data described in section 1 in the United States. Where that occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
9. Complaints
If you have a privacy question, request, or complaint, contact us at support@aparkment.co. We will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes we will give reasonable notice (for example, in the app or by email). The current version is always available at aparkment.co/privacy.
